It seems to me the poem is about a mother that takes her daughter to a pool party with a bunch boys. Said and done is what I would say but apparently I have to go beyond that. The girl is said to be wearing a bathing suit with "hamburgers and french fires printed on it". Other than the obvious title of the poem, the girl is still a child. Any person wearing a goofy bathing suit has to be a kid. This kid does not worry or get embarrassed about her appearance when there is party full of boys. She is not trying to be cute or flirtatious when she around the pool, like a girl from Ridgemont High. She is still this innocent little kid that wants play in the pool. This kid is apparently a whiz at math with all the poem's references to math. In her mother's eyes, the child will be successful in life through her apparent intelligence which has developed so young. The mother is also witnessing her child developing into a women. The "sweet" child begins to notice the opposite sex and begin to do "wild multiplying" in her head. She begins to realize these guys are not that bad looking. The child is overwhelmed with a rush of new feelings and it is happening so rapidly. This can also indicate that the child's innocence is fading away. The mother must feel so sad to witness that her daughter is growing up. Yet, she must feel so proud for raising a smart kid.
